CALL 29 OPENS 1 FEBRUARY 2017
Deadline for Call 29 – 31st March 2017
“It‘s considered good practice to involve members of the public as early as possible in the research design process. Funding public involvement at the grant application stage can be challenging. The RDS ‘Public Involvement Funds’ aim to bridge that gap. Funds are available to researchers to help facilitate public involvement in the development of research ideas and research grant applications.
Who are these funds for?
These awards are for researchers within the Yorkshire and Humber region who require funding to support patient and public involvement at the research design stage.
How can these funds be used?
The awards can be used to fund the involvement of members of the public (e.g. patients, carers or service users) in research design or developing research ideas. The award are generally used to fund two distinct types of project:
- An event / meeting (or series of smaller meetings) to inform a particular research grant application.
- The awards can also be used to establish an ongoing PPI panel / group in a specific research area, where the need for such a group has been identified. The RDS YH has recently produced a set of guidance notes for researchers who might be interested in establishing their own group.

How are applications reviewed?
All applications are reviewed by RDS YH staff and by members of the RDS YH PPI Forum. At least one lay member of the forum will review each application.
What happens if the deadline is missed?
In exceptional circumstances (if you are applying for a commissioned call or if you have been successful at outline), you can apply for an RDS YH Public Involvement in Grant Applications Funding Award between calls. Please use the current application form on the RDS YH website. In these circumstances, your application is reviewed by the RDS YH Director, the RDSY H PPI Lead and one member of the RDS YH PPI Forum on a fast-track basis. Please contact your local RDS YH office before submitting a fast-track application.
