About us – Research Design Service Yorkshire and Humber

About us

Who we are

The National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Research Design Service Yorkshire and Humber (RDS YH) is one of ten regional services across England who each give design and methodological support to health, public health and social care researchers who are developing research applications.

We aim to increase the volume and quality of successful grant applications to open and peer reviewed funders. RDS advisers provide expert advice and support to help you to develop and design a high quality research proposal and apply for one of the competitions. Our support is confidential and provided free of charge.

The RDS YH is based at the Universities of Sheffield, Leeds and York. The service is managed in Sheffield, with a team of specialist advisers including:

  • statisticians
  • qualitative researchers
  • epidemiologists
  • health economists
  • information specialists
  • advisers who have expertise in patient and public involvement (PPI) in research.

Our advisers are based at each of the three Universities. They are research-active and have considerable expertise in developing and designing high quality research proposals. The RDS advisers work closely with the clinical trials unit at each site where appropriate. We have an active public involvement forum who advise on public involvement in the work of RDS YH.
